Landscape Design and Application

Completed in 2018 on an approximately 3,800 m² site, the project was developed within a mixed-use program combining residential and commercial functions.

The primary objective of the design was to transform the open spaces between building masses located at different elevations, and developed entirely over structural slabs, into a functional, aesthetically coherent, and highly green landscape system capable of responding to the needs of its users.

In areas without a direct connection to natural ground, raised planting areas, modular planter systems, and custom-designed metal elements were introduced to ensure the continuity of the planting framework. Corten steel was particularly prominent as both a technical and aesthetic material in the landscape elements, establishing a strong design language that defines different levels and shapes the green areas.

In the private gardens, the aim was to achieve the maximum possible amount of green space within the limitations imposed by the existing structural slab conditions. Modular planter systems were therefore employed to create flexible and sustainable planting areas.

The circulation system throughout the project’s open spaces was designed with consideration for the needs of different user profiles. Accessibility and barrier-free use were among the fundamental design criteria of the pedestrian circulation network. Connections between different levels were resolved accordingly, allowing the project to be completed as an accessible and barrier-free open-space system.

Safety also became a key component of the design due to the changes in elevation created by the topography and building configuration. Rather than relying on standard solutions, custom-designed railing systems were developed to integrate seamlessly with the architectural character of the project.

Material continuity and detailing quality were prioritized in the landscape elements supporting the architectural identity of Artı Tarabya. Laser-cut Corten steel separators, custom-designed site furnishings, and metal raised elements are among the principal design components that enable the landscape to integrate with the architectural character of the development.

The characteristic surface created through the natural oxidation process of Corten steel contrasts with the vitality of the planting, while simultaneously establishing a strong and consistent material language throughout the project.

The Artı Tarabya Orman Project has been shaped as a landscape design that addresses the goal of maximizing green space within an urban environment defined by limitations in natural ground conditions, changes in elevation, and dense development, while integrating accessibility, safety, functionality, and material coherence as complementary design principles.
