Landscape Design and Application

The landscape design and implementation of the Medikar Private Hospital, located in Karabük, were carried out by Betula Landscape Architecture. The project aims to establish an integrated relationship between the landscape and the strong geometry and glazed façade character of the existing architectural structure, while creating a contemporary and refined outdoor environment that clearly defines the hospital entrance.

At the entrance, imported modular planters, designed in reference to the geometric form of the building and the transparency of its façade, were positioned on custom-designed plinths. Laminated glass surfaces were applied over a Podima gravel base beneath the planters, creating a sense of lightness and continuity between the landscape elements and the architectural structure.

The arc-shaped water walls positioned around the columns at the main entrance were conceived as landscape elements that soften the rigid geometry of the building while creating a visual focal point within the entrance experience. Composite decking used across the entrance floor establishes a balanced transition between natural and architectural materials. Iroko benches, waste bins, and other site furnishings were custom-designed and implemented to complement and reinforce the overall design language of the project.

Another key design element that extends the hospital’s corporate identity into the outdoor space is the series of partitions composed of acrylic panels framed with stainless steel. Featuring the hospital emblem, these elements address the need for spatial definition and wayfinding while establishing a transparent and contemporary visual language.

In areas containing existing trees, galvanized steel grating was installed to support the healthy growth of the existing vegetation without interrupting pedestrian circulation. For the planting design, species that are resilient and well adapted to the site were selected, taking into consideration the climatic conditions and regional ecological characteristics of Karabük.

As part of the project, an automated irrigation system was also designed and implemented to ensure the sustainable and controlled maintenance of all planted areas. As a result, the landscape design has evolved into a comprehensive outdoor environment in which architecture, materials, water, planting, and site furnishings are considered as an integrated whole, bringing together functional requirements and aesthetic design decisions.
