Landscape Design and Application

The primary objective of this project was to achieve the “Best Overall Transformation” by creating an environment that responds to the needs of its new users through aesthetic, functional, contemporary, and sustainable design.

More than a landscape construction project, it was approached as a comprehensive transformation process requiring the simultaneous coordination of architectural, structural, and engineering disciplines. The design decisions not only enhanced the visual quality of the property but also significantly increased its functional and spatial potential.

The project’s defining feature is that the majority of the landscaped area was designed as a roof garden. Beneath the hardscape surfaces, planted areas, infinity pool, and outdoor living spaces are basement volumes accommodating enclosed functions. This required exceptional engineering precision in terms of structural design, load calculations, waterproofing, drainage, infrastructure coordination, and construction detailing.

While creating the appearance of a natural garden, a complex multi-layered structure containing storage areas, mechanical rooms, a fitness center, sauna, and ancillary service spaces beneath the landscape was successfully designed and constructed. In this respect, the project represents a distinguished example of landscape architecture seamlessly integrated with advanced engineering solutions.

As the existing topography was insufficient to accommodate the new functional requirements, a retaining wall was constructed along the site boundary, creating additional usable volumes and allowing the terrain to be completely reconfigured. Newly constructed reinforced concrete slabs at different elevations established the framework for the roof garden concept.

The expanded terraces were enriched with movable planters made of fiberglass, metal, and natural materials, transforming them into authentic garden environments. Two custom-designed pergolas, supported by steel structures and finished with permeable overhead canopies at different elevations, provide effective shading while creating a strong sense of place within the outdoor spaces.

Throughout the project, the users’ lifestyle patterns and expectations were carefully analyzed to create a holistic outdoor living environment that accommodates relaxation, social interaction, sports, and private activities.

The Cubuklu Vadi Houses Landscape Construction Project is a comprehensive transformation that successfully combines refined landscape design with advanced engineering solutions. Through its roof garden concept, expanded terraces, newly created outdoor living spaces, and high level of technical expertise, the project was awarded the PLANT Magazine Residential Project & Construction Award in 2022, earning recognition as one of the industry’s exemplary landscape implementation projects.
