A Modern Transformation in Golkoy

A Modern Transformation in Golkoy

Located in Golkoy, one of Bodrum’s most distinctive coastal settings, this project tells the story of an existing garden reinterpreted around the dynamic lifestyle of a family of five. Designed by Betula Landscape Architecture, the project seamlessly combines functionality with aesthetic refinement, creating a sustainable outdoor living environment closely connected to its natural surroundings.

The Spirit of the Concept and Transformation

The primary objective of the project was to address the family’s spatial needs without compromising the existing character of the site, transforming the garden into an integrated outdoor environment immersed in nature.

The design process took Bodrum’s local climatic conditions and the distinctive landscape character of Golkoy as key references. Underutilized areas were reimagined as functional zones that encourage social interaction, allow children to move freely, and provide adults with spaces in which to experience calm and relaxation.

Balancing Functionality and Aesthetics

Completed in June 2025, the project places particular emphasis on the harmony between hardscape and planting design. The users’ daily routines are connected through a seamless circulation scheme, extending from outdoor dining areas to dedicated relaxation spaces.

Beyond purely aesthetic considerations, the design incorporates sustainable strategies such as water-efficient landscape solutions and the use of locally adapted plant species. The overall objective was to establish a garden that would continue to evolve over time, developing into a resilient and living ecosystem.
