Located in Vadi İstanbul, this terrace project aimed to transform a large and underutilized outdoor space into a high-quality living environment that could be used comfortably and functionally throughout the year.

The primary design approach was to transform the expansive and undefined terrace surface into a series of spaces with distinct functions and usage scenarios. Modular fiberglass planters in varying dimensions were introduced to establish spatial boundaries within the terrace. Together with the planting, these elements break down the scale of the open area, creating a more balanced, defined, and intimate spatial experience.

To extend the usability of the terrace and enhance seasonal comfort, an aluminum pergola equipped with a bioclimatic roof system was designed. Enclosed with sliding and folding glazing systems, the pergola can function either as a fully open space or as a controlled and protected environment, transforming into a winter garden when required. In this way, the terrace was no longer limited to seasonal summer use, but became a living space that could be enjoyed throughout the year.

Natural iroko wood was used for the flooring, introducing a warm and sophisticated character while creating visual continuity with the pergola and other timber details. The natural texture of the wood balances the more contemporary character of the metal and glass surfaces, contributing to a warmer and more inviting outdoor atmosphere.

To reduce the visual impact of the existing air-conditioning unit and integrate technical equipment into the overall design, a custom iroko wood enclosure was developed. A console table positioned on the enclosure was conceived not only as a functional element, but also as a decorative detail that reinforces the continuity of the design language.

Bringing together planting and structural elements, the project redefined the scale of the expansive terrace, integrated technical requirements with aesthetic solutions, and created a contemporary outdoor living environment that could be comfortably used regardless of seasonal conditions. The previously underutilized terrace was transformed into a refined and functional space that enhances the quality of outdoor living and complements the residence as an extension of its interior spaces.
