Landscape Design and Implementation

The landscape implementation project and construction processes for Ataman Apartment, located on Bağdat Street, were carried out by our team. The hardscape and infrastructure works of the project were undertaken by a separate contractor.

The fact that the garden is largely located above the footprint of the basement level, with almost no natural soil available on site, was one of the primary determinants of the design. Accordingly, the project was approached in accordance with roof garden principles, with careful consideration of the existing structural loads and technical requirements, and in close coordination with the engineering studies.

Within the linear garden layout, bespoke details were developed to create the required growing medium for the planting design and to increase soil depth. In addition to integrating the existing parapets into the landscape configuration, custom-designed, open-bottom planter systems were developed to accommodate the specific growing requirements of different plant species. This approach aimed to establish a continuous, robust, and layered planting character despite the limited soil conditions.

Composite decking and stainless-steel honeycomb grating were used along the circulation routes, creating a lightweight and permeable ground treatment that responds both to technical requirements and to the linear spatial character of the garden.

Metal detailing constitutes a significant component of the overall design. Platforms and walkways, climbing plant support panels, outdoor unit enclosures, and various landscape elements were designed and implemented as part of the project. Rather than serving solely as functional components, these elements were conceived as integral details that reinforce the architectural language of the garden and transform the technical infrastructure of the landscape into a visible design element.

The overall aim of the project was to transform the limited soil depth and existing structural conditions from constraints into design opportunities, creating a garden in which the architectural structure, technical infrastructure, and planting design are seamlessly integrated.
