Landscape Design and Application

Located in Yalıkavak, Bodrum, overlooking the region’s unique natural landscape and uninterrupted sea views, this villa project aims to establish an integrated relationship between architectural identity and landscape design. The design approach takes the natural stone character of the existing architecture as its primary reference, strengthening the architectural quality of the outdoor spaces while creating a seamless connection between the living areas and the surrounding landscape.

Within the scope of the landscape design process, the existing sloped terrain was carefully analyzed and terraced according to its topographical characteristics. The entrance axis, vehicular access routes, terrace levels, auxiliary building surroundings, parking areas, and hobby-oriented fruit and vegetable gardens were planned through a functional and aesthetic approach. The hardscape design was developed as part of the landscape project, while its implementation was carried out by a separate contractor.

The planting design focuses on species adapted to Bodrum’s Mediterranean climate, requiring low maintenance and reflecting the natural character of the region. Tree species including Olea europaea, Cupressus sempervirens ‘Pyramidalis’, Schinus molle, and Jacaranda mimosifolia were incorporated to create spatial focal points, while productive landscape elements such as Vitis vinifera, Citrus limon, and Citrus sinensis were integrated into the project to support an edible landscape approach.

To ensure the continuity of the architectural language throughout the outdoor spaces, natural stone masonry parapet walls were designed. Movable planters with varying dimensions, forms, and textures were positioned in harmony with the stone-clad architectural character, creating a layered spatial composition. Decorative vessels carefully selected for the hardscape areas extend the landscape identity across the outdoor spaces, establishing a natural, warm, and timeless atmosphere.

As a result, the project brings together Bodrum’s distinctive natural character with contemporary landscape design principles, creating a balanced living environment where architecture, topography, and planting design form a cohesive whole while providing both aesthetic value and functional outdoor experiences.
